Since the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, more than 1.5 million women community workers have made great contributions to the epidemic prevention and control work in urban and rural areas.
To commend and promote the deeds of the women role models, a list of 10 women community workers on the front line of the anti-COVID-19 battle in urban and rural areas was unveiled by the All-China Women's Federation and the Ministry of Civil Affairs on April 20.
The event aims to show respect and sincere condolences to community workers who have been fighting on the front line of the epidemic prevention and control and even sacrificed their lives in the fight against the COVID-19.
The role models are Tao Jiudi and Ni Juan from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, Wang Qiong from Yichang City, Hubei Province, Chen Guirong (deceased) from Huanggang City, Hubei Province, Li Meihong from Shijingshan District, Beijing Municipality, Cao Chen from Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, Lu Yanru from Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, Xiao Xiaohui from Changsha City, Hunan Province, Lü Yanhong from Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, and Xu Min from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province.
These community workers overcame various difficulties and held fast to their posts around the clock to safeguard the local residents. They gave full play to the role of Party organizations in the urban and rural communities, and led service teams to fight on the front line of the battle against the epidemic.
They also took advantages of the neighborhood committees, village committees and women's federations to mobilize the residents to participate in the epidemic prevention and control, to protect both their own families and neighbors from being infected with the virus.
They have been prompt in screening the buildings, enterprises and shops when the epidemic prevention and control work began. They also learnt about the information of the residents in a timely manner, laying a solid foundation for taking targeted containment measures. They helped purchase and deliver medicine and daily necessities for community residents, especially the disadvantaged people.
The two departments called for Chinese women and the community workers to follow the role models to continue to take control measures on a regular basis, and to make new contributions to the complete victory over the epidemic.
